  • iOS-6.1.4

Apple has released a new version of iOS for the iPhone 5 that brings about an updated audio profile for the speakerphone. After updating you will not notice any quality differences with the speakerphone so it is likely the changes are behind the scenes. Besides the updated audio profile for the speakerphone there is no other documented changes.

It is always good to be running the latest version of iOS so we recommend you update your iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1.4 now. You can upgrade to iOS 6.1.4 over-the-air or through iTunes. It’s your choice.

  • iOS6.1.3

The iOS 6.1.3 firmware was released to address a flaw in the lockscreen that allowed someone with malicious intent to bypass a passcode protected device. Additionally, iOS 6.1.3 brings improvements to the Japan maps app. Due to the security concern involving the lockscreen it is recommended users update as soon as possible.

Notably Apple also patched exploits relating to the Evasi0n iOS 6.x Untethered Jailbreak that allowed users to install a 3rd party App Store allowing apps Apple wouldn’t otherwise approve on the App Store.

  • iOS-6.1.2-Released

Apple has released the iOS 6.1.2 firmware to address a serious bug found in iOS 6.1 / 6.1.1 concerning Microsoft Exchange that forced AOL to temporarily disable the ability to manage meetings with Exchange on devices running iOS 6.1. As a result AOL worked closely with both Apple and Microsoft to come up with a solution.

It is our recommendation that everyone who uses their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad for work update to iOS 6.1.2 as soon as possible. Even if you don’t use your device at work it is always a smart idea to be running the latest firmware version.

  • iOS-6.1.1-iOS Centric

Apple has just released the iOS 6.1.1 firmware for the iPhone 4S to fix a variety of bugs that were being reported such as 3G performance issues, Microsoft Exchange issues and even possible overheating problems. Apple’s official statement regarding iOS 6.1.1 for the iPhone 4S is as follows “fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.”

We recommend that you update to iOS 6.1.1 as soon as possible. You can upgrade to iOS 6.1.1 over-the-air or through iTunes. It’s your choice.

  • iOS-6.1-iOS Centric

Apple has finally released the official iOS 6.1 firmware for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. As we mentioned in our previous post the biggest thing this firmware update brings about is the ability to purchase movie tickets with Siri via Fandango (U.S. only). Other than that the usual bug fixes are present along with new LTE support in various countries.

Apple’s official changelog for iOS 6.1 reads as follows:

  • LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/)
  • Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
  • iTunes Match subscribers can nowdownload individual songs from iCloud
  • New button to reset the Advertising Identifier
  • iOS-6.1-Beta-iOS Centric

Apple is always beta testing new iOS updates with developers and the latest of such betas is iOS 6.1. Apple is expected to release the iOS 6.1 firmware sometime in January and it will be a fairly substantial update.

The fruit company plans to include new Siri functionality that will allow you to purchase movie tickets via Fandango. There is additionally a new Maps framework that will allow you to search for places using keywords like restaurant or coffee instead of requiring the exact address for the place you are looking for. Among other things there will be of course bug fixes and stability improvements. Apple could also slip in some new functionality for the final release that we will be sure to let you know about.

  • iOS-6.0.2-iOS Centric

On December 18th Apple released a firmware update for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini only. This firmware update brings both devices to version 6.0.2. This is actually just a small firmware update, with no new and exciting features. It simply brings about Wi-Fi related bug fixes, which is great if you were unlucky enough to be facing issues.

Although the changelog for iOS 6.0.2 is bare, from what we can gauge this Wi-Fi related bug specifically has to do with connecting to 5.0GHz Wi-Fi networks. Even if you haven’t been experiencing Wi-Fi problems we would still recommend updating just to stay up-to-date.

  • iOS-6.0.1-iOS Centric

About a month or so after releasing the iOS 6.0 firmware, Apple has seeded the iOS 6.0.1 firmware to the public that fixes a wide assortment of bugs. This includes the strange graphical glitch that made certain interface elements distorted and issues with the iPhone’s flash not going off when taking pictures.

This update was strictly focused around bug fixes and did not bring about any new functionality as such. Mind you, we are scouring through the new firmware version as you read and will be sure to make new videos if we find something interesting.

In the mean time you can take a look at the changelog below.
